We have all heard it… a “Proverbs 31 Woman.” It is what almost all Christian women look to when trying to describe the perfect image of a woman after God’s own heart.
But, how can we truly become that woman after God’s own heart?
Proverbs 31:25-26 states, “She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
These are some other attributes a Proverbs 31 Woman has based off the chapter:
- Husband finds full confidence in her & lacks nothing in value (v.11)
- She brings him (husband) good. (v.12)
- She works with eager hands (v. 13)
- She provides for her family. (v. 15)
- She works vigorously and her arms are strong. (v. 17)
- She opens her arms to the poor and needy. (v. 20)
- Her children arise and call her blessed. (v. 28)
Now, I am not going to go through all of those points, but they can help position your vision on what a Woman of the Word should look like. I will be focusing on Verses 25-26!

A WOMAN OF STRENGTH
How can I be clothed in strength? Especially when I feel lost, confused, and hopeless?
A snippet of Psalms 38:10 says, “my strength fails me…”
If we try and live a life only using our strength, we will fail. We need a strong and mighty hand to guide us and help us. God has the never-failing strength we need to be a woman who is clothed in strength.
Pray this simple prayer to ask God to make you a woman clothed in strength:
•Lord, I know Your strength will never fail me. You are powerful and mighty, God, so I ask in Your name, give me the strength I need to go about my days in a way that brings glory to You alone. Grant me your strength, so that I may not fail in becoming a Woman of the Word and a woman of strength. Amen. •
A WOMAN OF DIGNITY
Dignity: the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect.
1 Timothy 3:4 states, “Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.”
Since we are children of God, we are worthy. We have the assurance of salvation. If we are children of God, the most mighty and powerful being ever in existence, we are dignified. We are different.
One of Jesus’ legacies was restoring human-dignity for people who were robbed of it. The leper, the blind, the cripple. He gave them back their life and dignity.
Though, dignity should not be the only thing that defines us. Our state of being a child of God should define us. If we get so caught up in having worldly dignity (being famous, lots of money, etc.) we lose our vision of Christ.
We should be dignified through Christ, not ourselves.
Pray this simple prayer to ask God to make you a woman of dignity:
•Lord, you are good. I pray that I will become a woman of dignity through Your strength and Your faithfulness, not through my own worldly status. Amen. •
A WOMAN WHO LAUGHS WITHOUT FEAR OF THE FUTURE
Many versions read this differently. Laughs at the days to come… laughs without fear of the future… etc.
I think the point being made here is that we shouldn’t fear the future. There is a quote, “I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know WHO holds tomorrow”. And, to think that is so comforting, especially in the time like this.
We should laugh and enjoy the abundant blessings God has given to us instead of dwelling in worry about the future! God holds our future, it’s all in His book, so why should we fear?
Pray this simple prayer to ask God to make you a woman who laughs without fear of the future:
•Lord, I know you hold my future, I thank you for that. Help me to not be afraid of what is to come, especially during this time, but comfort me with your loving and guiding hand. Amen. •
A WOMAN WHO SPEAKS WITH WISDOM
James 1:5 says, “Now if any of you lacks wisdom you should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it should be given to you.”
This reminds me of when Solomon asked for wisdom, and he was granted it. It also says that God was pleased with this request. Solomon could of asked for riches, for power, for fame, but he asked for wisdom. –1 Kings 3–
If we ask God with a humbled and fully believing heart, He will give us the wisdom we need to be a woman of the World. God gives generously and doesn’t find fault. How comforting is that?!
Pray this simple prayer to ask God to make you a woman that speaks with wisdom:
•Lord, thank you for generously granting wisdom to all who ask. I pray that you will grant me wisdom, so I can speak of Your love and truth with joyful lips all the days of my life. Amen. •
A WOMAN WITH FAITHFUL INSTRUCTION ON HER LIPS
Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouth but only such as is good for building up others…”
Sometimes I feel like I can’t talk about God because I don’t have the right words or I don’t know enough. But, if we choose to dwell in God’s word, and read it every day, meditating on it, our lips will be prone to speak with faithful instruction.
Why?
Because, if our mind is on Jesus Christ, and not on how much we don’t know, pure and faithful instruction (from His word) will come into our hearts, then flowing out of our mouth.
The ending of Luke 6:45 says, “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
If our hearts are filled with His word, we WILL speak with faithful instruction!
Pray this simple prayer to ask God to make you a woman that speaks with faithful instruction:
•Father, I thank you for Your Word and that I can meditate on it. I pray that I will constantly want more of You and have a heart that wants to learn more. I pray that my lips with speak of faithful instruction. Amen.•
